Telecom Products Board and Management Moves: Apple, Ciena & Others

Apple Makes Appointments to Key Leadership RolesKaren Appleton

Apple hired Tesla Motors' former VP of vehicle engineering Chris Porritt to work on its own car project dubbed Project Titan. Steve Zadesky, who led Apple's Project Titan left the company earlier this year. Before working at Tesla, Porritt served as chief engineer for British luxury carmaker Aston Martin.

Karen Appleton, SVP, Global Alliances at Box, has left that company for an enterprise-focused Senior Director role at Apple. She joined Box in 2007 as its eighth hire, becoming the company's SVP for industries.

Apple has promoted its current India-based Director, Telecom Sanjay Kaul as the new Country Manager in India. Kaul joined Apple in November 2011 as head of the iPhone business in India. Prior to joining Apple, he served BlackBerry where he headed the firm's channel sales division.

Vodafone Creates New Line of Business for Enterprise Customers; Appoints Simon Church as VESS CEO          

Vodafone Group plc has created Vodafone Enterprise Security Services, or VESS, its new global line of business to provide its enterprise customers with cyber security technologies and specialist advice and support. The new VESS line of business will will be led by VESS CEO Simon Church. Church was previously CEO at NTT Com Security, formerly Integralis, and has held senior roles at Verisign and NetIQ.

Bridgewater Associates Co-CEO Resigns from Qualcomm Board    

Jonathan Rubinstein, 58, a member of the Board of Directors of Qualcomm, is resigning from the Board in order to focus on his new role as co-CEO of Bridgewater Associates. He is former Head of the Global Business Unit at WebOS and SVP of Product Innovation for Personal Systems Group at HP.

Nokia Appoints President of Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks   

Nokia has appointed Philippe Piron to lead its Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks business. Piron replaces Philippe Dumont, who has decided to pursue endeavors outside of the company. Piron joins Nokia from GEA Batignolles Technologies Thermiques. He started his career in 1994 at Total Chimie.

Ericsson Witnesses Board and Organizational and Structural Changes     Kristin S. Rinne    

Ericsson elected Kristin S. Rinne, 61, and Helena Stjernholm, 45, as new Board members. Rinne serves as SVP of Architecture and Planning for AT&T. Prior, she served as VP of Technology and Product Realization at Cingular.

Stjernholm is President and CEO of Aktiebolaget Industrivärden. She has 17 years of experience in private equity at IK.

Ericsson announced a series of organizational and structural changes to strengthen strategy execution to drive growth and profitability. Two business units focusing on the Networks business: BU Network Products, headed by Arun Bansal, SVP, Head of Business Unit Network Products and a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). BU Network Services, headed by Fredrik Jejdling, SVP, Head of Business Unit Network Services and a member of the ELT.

Two business units focusing on the IT & Cloud business: BU IT & Cloud Products, headed by Anders Lindblad, SVP, Head of Business Unit IT & Cloud Products and a member of the ELT. BU IT & Cloud Services, headed by Jean-Philippe Poirault, SVP, Head of Business Unit IT & Cloud Services and a member of the ELT.

Strengthened focus on new types of customers in Media and Industries: BU Media with central go-to-market model, headed by Per Borgklint, SVP, Chief Innovation Officer, Head of Business Unit Media and a member of the ELT.

Customer Group Industry & Society with central go-to-market model, headed by Charlotta Sund, SVP, Head of Customer Group Industry & Society and a member of the ELT.

Ericsson appointed Peter Laurin, as Head of region northern Europe and Central Asia. Laurin currently holds the position as Head of Global Customer Unit Vodafone.

Jean-Claude Geha is now head of region sub-Saharan Africa. Geha currently holds the position as Head of Business Line Managed Services.

Gustav Brismark appointed as Chief Intellectual Property Officer and Head of IPR & Licensing. Brismark currently holds the position as VP, Patent Strategy and Portfolio.

The following individuals will leave the Executive Leadership Team: Magnus Mandersson, EVP (since 2011) and Head of Segment and Business Unit Global Services (since 2010). Mandersson will hold the position as Head of Segment Global Services, EVP and Advisor to the CEO.

Alcatel Appoints President of North America and North Asia Business Units   Steve Cistulli       

Alcatel appointed Steve Cistulli as President of Alcatel's North America and North Asia business units. He remains General Manager of Alcatel's North American business. Prior to this appointment, Cistulli served as SVP and General Manager for Alcatel in North America.

Motorola Solutions Appoints Company Veteran as Head of Brazilian Operations    

Motorola Solutions appointed Elton Borgonovo as general manager for its Brazilian operations. Borgonovo succeeds Paulo Cunha, who resigned from the position. Borgonovo joined Motorola 18 years ago as an intern.

Yandex Announces Board Changes    

Yandex announced that the company's Chairman and Director, Alfred Fenaughty passed away on March 26, 2016, at the age of 90. Yandex's Board of Directors has appointed John Boynton, 50, a current non-executive director, to serve as interim Chairman of the Board.

Blackberry Extends Device Division's Corporate Shake-Up As it Seeks Profitability

BlackBerry announced that Ralph Pini will succeed Ron Louks as the device division's COO and GM. The executive has headed BlackBerry’s radio-frequency technology development operations for more than four years.

Louks joined BlackBerry in January 2014 from OpenNMS Group.

BlackBerry hired Alex Thurber as SVP for global device sales. AThurber comes to BlackBerry from WatchGuard, where he was VP of sales for the supplier of security solutions. He previously held a similar with software security company Tripwire, and led worldwide channels and commercial sales operations at McAfee.

Ciena Appoints Australia, NZ Managing Director     

Ciena has appointed Matt Vesperman as Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand. Before re-joining Ciena, Vesperman held numerous roles in the region including most recently as a senior account director at Ericsson and as VP of sales at Openwave Mobility.

Betsy Atkins Resigns from Polycom Board   Betsy Atkins

Betsy Atkins, 62, has resigned from the Polycom Board of Directors in order to pursue other opportunities including her recent election to the Volvo board. Atkins is an American business executive and entrepreneur. She is known for her early stage investments in Yahoo and eBay in association with the venture capital firm, Baja LLC.

Mobile Startup Quixey Names New CEO

Quixey, a mobile search and advertising startup, appointed Mark Lazar, a veteran executive from several enterprise and networking companies, as new CEO. Quixey’s founding CEO, Tomer Kagan, is stepping over to focus on the company’s technology as chief strategy officer. Lazar was most recently CEO of Victrio, that sells enterprise software against fraud attacks. Before that, he served as CEO for eight other companies, primarily in the world of enterprise and Web services.
