IBM, SAP, Intel & Other Tech Giants: Significant Leadership Changes

Karen Appleton, SVP, Global Alliances at Box, has left that company for an enterprise-focused Senior Director role at Apple. She joined Box in 2007 as its eighth hire, becoming the company's SVP for industries.

Apple has promoted its current India-based Director, Telecom Sanjay Kaul as the new Country Manager in India. Kaul joined Apple in November 2011 as head of the iPhone business in India. Prior to joining Apple, he served BlackBerry where he headed the firm's channel sales division.

Alphabet Opens New Hardware Division; Appoints Former Motorola President as Leader           

Alphabet has hired former Motorola President Rick Osterloh to lead a new hardware division. The newly created hardware division will include Chromebook laptops, tablets, Chromecast gadgets and also OnHub Wi-Fi routers. Android chief Hiroshi Lockheimer will now mainly focus on the software part. He earlier oversaw Chromecast and Chromebooks. Osterloh will be reporting to Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai.

Google’s Head of Enterprise Apps to Run Virtual Reality Business

Amit Singh, the president of Google for Work, the company's unit that sells its suite of apps to other companies, is now leading business and operations for Google's nascent virtual reality division. Singh, a former Oracle sales exec, has lead Google for Work since 2010.

Facebook Goes Through Several Leadership Changes

Paul Grewal, a magistrate judge in San Jose federal court, is joining Facebook as Deputy General Counsel in charge of litigation. Grewal has been on the bench since 2010. He has been on the court's technology and patent committees. Before joining the bench as a magistrate, Grewal worked at the law firms Pillsbury Madison & Sutro and at Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder as well as serving as a law clerk to Federal Circuit appeals court judge Arthur J. Gajarsa.

Facebook hired Google's Regina Dugan to head up a new R&D group focused on hardware, called Building 8. Dugan, who leads the Advanced Technology and Products group at Google, is also a former director of the US military's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Facebook has appointed Shant Oknayan as head of e-commerce, retail and online services at Facebook in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan. He formerly led Google's market development for small and medium-sized businesses in the Middle East and North Africa.

VP Mike Buckley is leaving the company to work full time at New Frontier Foods, a food company he co-founded back in 2012. Caryn Marooney, Buckley’s counterpart running product and technology communications, will step in to manage the entire communications team.

Amazon Names Retail and Cloud Computing Heads as CEOs of Their Respective Units

Amazon announced that Jeff Wilke, the head of Amazon’s consumer business, and Andy Jassy, the head of its Amazon Web Services cloud computing business, are now CEOs of those respective units. Essentially Wilke and Jassy have been doing these jobs for some time. Jassy took what seemed at first in 2006 which is on track to become a $10 billion annual business by the end of this year. Wilke, on the other hand, runs Amazon’s core retail business worldwide.

Alibaba Group Appoints International Corporate Communications Head; Establishes Netherlands Operations with New Leader   

Alibaba Group appointed Jennifer Kuperman as Head of International Corporate Communications. Kuperman will replace Jim Wilkinson (current Head of International Corporate Affairs) who will be leaving Alibaba in the coming months to start a new entrepreneurial venture.

Kuperman, who currently serves as VP, Head of Strategy for International Corporate Affairs, is a proven international communications leader who has spent the last two years helping leading global communications strategy and execution for Alibaba. Prior to Alibaba, Kuperman was SVP and Head of Corporate Marketing and Reputation at Visa.

Alibaba Group appointed Roland Palmer as managing director of Alibaba Group Netherlands and member of the Alibaba Group EU leadership team. Prior to joining Alibaba, he was CEO of Blokker Holding where he helped in transforming a traditional offline retail company into an omnichannel group.

IBM Names Former AOL President as Chief Digital Officer

IBM has tapped Bob Lord, a former president at AOL and the former CEO of the Web advertising firm Razorfish, as its chief digital officer. As president, Lord had pressed AOL to focus on automating its advertising technologies, and during his tenure the Internet company acquired several firms that played in that space. Lord was the driving force behind AOL’s acquisitions of Millennial Media, the Web-personalization startup Gravity and Convertro, a startup focused on ad attribution.

Intel Promotes Diane Bryant to EVP; Announces Departures and Replacements    Diane Bryant

Intel promoted Diane Bryant to EVP. Bryant has been leading Intel’s Data Center Group (DCG) as general manager and SVP since 2012. Prior to assuming leadership of DCG, Bryant was VP and CIO of Intel. Bryant joined Intel in 1985.

Eric Dishman, an Intel VP and leader of its health and life sciences organization, is leaving to join a federal project called the Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program.

Intel also announced departures of senior executives Doug Davis and Kirk Skaugen. Doug Davis, who will retire at the end of the year having been with the firm for 32 years, most recently heading its IoT Group. Kirk Skaugen has been at Intel for 24 years and held several roles, most recently as SVP.

Intel has already lined up a replacement for Skaugen in Navin Shenoy, current general manager for Mobile Client Platforms.

Aicha Evana, head of Intel's mobile chip business, is leaving the company.

SAP Appoints COO and CIO; Makes Other Regional Management Changes

SAP appointed Christian Klein, 35, as COO and Thomas Saueressig, 31, as CIO. In his role as SAP chief controlling officer he is also responsible for SAPs Group Controlling and oversees the company's growth and profitability strategy. Klein joined SAP as a student in 1999.

Saueressig is the youngest CIO at a German DAX company, who will lead SAPs IT organization and report to the COO. Saueressig joined SAP in 2004 and was previously global head of IT service.

Scott Russell was named president and managing director for SAP Southeast Asia. He was most recently the COO for SAP Asia Pacific Japan and interim president and managing director for SAP Southeast Asia for the last quarter, where he helped to ensure business continuity.

Rufat Gadzhialibelov is now the head of its Azerbaijan unit. Gadzhialibekov earlier worked as head of Microsoft Azerbaijan. He succeeds Sarkhan Gashimov.

Vodafone Creates New Line of Business for Enterprise Customers; Appoints Simon Church as VESS CEO          

Vodafone Group plc has created Vodafone Enterprise Security Services, or VESS, its new global line of business to provide its enterprise customers with cyber security technologies and specialist advice and support. The new VESS line of business will will be led by VESS CEO Simon Church. Church was previously CEO at NTT Com Security, formerly Integralis, and has held senior roles at Verisign and NetIQ.

Bridgewater Associates Co-CEO Resigns from Qualcomm Board    Jonathan Rubinstein

Jonathan Rubinstein, 58, a member of the Board of Directors of Qualcomm, is resigning from the Board in order to focus on his new role as co-CEO of Bridgewater Associates. He is former Head of the Global Business Unit at WebOS and SVP of Product Innovation for Personal Systems Group at HP.

Accenture Hires Advertising MD, Lead Creative Director and Retail Leader           

Accenture has hired Jill Kramer as managing director of advertising. Kramer joins Accenture with more than 20 years of Madison Avenue experience, serving most recently as EVP at BBDO.

Greg Kaplan is the company's new lead creative director. He joined the company from digital powerhouse, DigitasLBi, where he oversaw creative operations, including directing his team's work for American Express.

Jill Standish has joined Accenture and been named Senior Managing Director, Retail. Her most recent role was at Oracle where she was SVP and General Manager for the Retail Business Unit. Prior to that, she was the global leader for IBM's Global Business Services retail consulting practice.

Former KPMG Partner Retires from Priceline’s Board

Howard W. (Skip) Barker, Jr., 68, has informed The Priceline Group that he has decided to retire from the Company's Board. He serves as Treasurer at Senior Services of Stamford. Barker was a Partner of KPMG from July 1982 to September 2002, where he joined in July 1972.

Retired Partner of PwC Retires from Board of Chinese language Internet Search Provider Baidu    

William Decker, 68, will step down from Baidu’s board of directors. Decker is a retired partner of PwC. Prior to his retirement in July 2005, he was the senior partner in charge of PwC’s Global Capital Markets Group.

Adobe Names New VP, Adobe Research

Adobe has brought on board noted computer scientist Anandan Padmanabhan to head its big data experience Lab in Bengaluru as VP, Adobe Research. Padmanabhan, who in his previous role was the MD of research outreach at Microsoft will lead the company's big data research initiatives in the region.

Netflix Appoints Media and Technology Industry Vet as VP, BD for APAC

Anthony Zameczkowski has joined Netflix as VP, business development for Asia-Pacific. Prior to Netflix, Zameckowski was running the international operations of Victorious, a Kleiner Perkins-backed startup in the mobile video space.

Cognizant Elects Former VMware CFO/COO to its Board      

Cognizant Technology Solutions elected Jonathan Chadwick, 49, to its board of directors. Chadwick was most recently EVP, CFO and COO of VMware.

Yahoo! Announces Board Changes After Agreement with Starboard Value LP; Important Execs Leave

Yahoo! has reached an agreement with Starboard Value and its affiliates under which four new independent directors, Tor R. Braham, Eddy W.  Hartenstein, Richard S. Hill, and Jeffrey C. Smith, Starboard’s CEO and Chief Investment Officer, will join the board.

Tor R. Braham served as Managing Director and Global Head of Technology Mergers and Acquisitions for Deutsche Bank Securities from 2004 until 2012.

Eddy W. Hartenstein is a seasoned media executive with a wealth of executive experience from his time serving as CEO of the Tribune Company, Chairman and CEO of DIRECTV, and Publisher and CEO of the Los Angeles Times Media Group. 

Richard S. Hillis a seasoned senior executive and public company board member who has served as Chairman of Tessera Technologies since 2013, and who previously served as Tessera’s interim CEO.

Jeffrey C.  Smith is a Managing Member, CEO, and Chief Investment Officer of Starboard.

Two current independent directors, Lee Scott and Sue James, have opted not to stand for reelection at 2016 annual shareholder meeting.

Sandy Gould, SVP for talent acquisition and development, is leaving Yahoo!. Gould was hired to much acclaim just over three years ago, after a high-profile career at Disney/ABC Television Group, Linden Labs/Second Life and RealNetworks.

Robby Stein, an important product director at Yahoo for most of Marissa Mayer's time as CEO, is leaving the company for a product leadership role at Instagram. At Yahoo, Stein led the New York engineering office, working on mobile and video products, which had been key to Mayer's turnaround pitch.

Nokia Appoints President of Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks   

Nokia has appointed Philippe Piron to lead its Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks business. Piron replaces Philippe Dumont, who has decided to pursue endeavors outside of the company. Piron joins Nokia from GEA Batignolles Technologies Thermiques. He started his career in 1994 at Total Chimie.

Ericsson Witnesses Board and Organizational and Structural Changes    Helena Stjernholm 

Ericsson elected Kristin S. Rinne, 61, and Helena Stjernholm, 45, as new Board members. Rinne serves as SVP of Architecture and Planning for AT&T. Prior, she served as VP of Technology and Product Realization at Cingular.

Stjernholm is President and CEO of Aktiebolaget Industrivärden. She has 17 years of experience in private equity at IK.

Ericsson announced a series of organizational and structural changes to strengthen strategy execution to drive growth and profitability. Two business units focusing on the Networks business: BU Network Products, headed by Arun Bansal, SVP, Head of Business Unit Network Products and a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). BU Network Services, headed by Fredrik Jejdling, SVP, Head of Business Unit Network Services and a member of the ELT.

Two business units focusing on the IT & Cloud business: BU IT & Cloud Products, headed by Anders Lindblad, SVP, Head of Business Unit IT & Cloud Products and a member of the ELT. BU IT & Cloud Services, headed by Jean-Philippe Poirault, SVP, Head of Business Unit IT & Cloud Services and a member of the ELT.

Strengthened focus on new types of customers in Media and Industries: BU Media with central go-to-market model, headed by Per Borgklint, SVP, Chief Innovation Officer, Head of Business Unit Media and a member of the ELT.

Ericsson appointed Peter Laurin, as Head of region northern Europe and Central Asia. Laurin currently holds the position as Head of Global Customer Unit Vodafone.

Jean-Claude Geha is now head of region sub-Saharan Africa. Geha currently holds the position as Head of Business Line Managed Services.

Gustav Brismark appointed as Chief Intellectual Property Officer and Head of IPR & Licensing. Brismark currently holds the position as VP, Patent Strategy and Portfolio.

The following individuals will leave the Executive Leadership Team: Magnus Mandersson, EVP (since 2011) and Head of Segment and Business Unit Global Services (since 2010). Mandersson will hold the position as Head of Segment Global Services, EVP and Advisor to the CEO.

Intuit Appoints Oportun CEO as Director    

Intuit appointed Raul Vazquez, CEO of Oportun, a financial technology company, to its board of directors. Prior to joining Oportun, Vazquez spent nine years at Walmart in various senior leadership roles.

Dassault Systèmes Appoints Managing Director of North America  

Dassault Systèmes named Paul DiLaura as Managing Director of North America. DiLaura joined the company in 2005 and held a variety of roles, including managing the company's relationship with Boeing, before being appointed VP of Sales for the Value Solutions Partner Channel in 2011.

Workday Appoints Robynne Sisco as CFO    

Workday named Robynne Sisco as CFO. Prior to joining Workday in 2012 as chief accounting officer, Robynne was chief accounting officer and corporate controller at VMware, SVP and chief accounting officer at VeriSign and assistant controller at Oracle.

Red Hat Appoints Regional Leaders and Principal Accounting Officer

Red Hat named Massimo Fatato as VP of the firm's broadened telecoms business in EMEA. Fatato joined Red Hat from HP, where he worked as general manager for its Operations Support System (OSS) portfolio globally, having formerly held designations at Cisco and Accenture.

Alejandro Raffaele joined Red Hat as its head of telecommunications and media in Latin America. Raffaele will be in charge of the management of operations and business relationships with leading telecommunications and data center services companies in the region.

Eric R. Shander, 47, will serve as the company’s principal accounting officer. Shander joined the company in November 2015 as VP, Finance and Accounting. Prior to that, he spent over twenty years at IBM, most recently as VP/Global Services Automation & Competitiveness.

CA Names Corporate Communications Leader and Head of Latin American Operations

CA Technologies announced that Darlàn Monterisi has been named SVP of Corporate Communications. Most recently, Monterisi was a partner and managing director at Porter Novelli in New York. Prior to that Monterisi was global PR director for Rockstar Games.

The company has appointed Claudia Vasquez as its new head of Latin American operations. Vazquez will replace Larcio Albuquerque, who held the position since 2012 and left the company a few days ago. Vasquez was VP of sales for the Andean region prior to this appointment.

Alcatel Appoints President of North America and North Asia Business Units   

Alcatel appointed Steve Cistulli as President of Alcatel's North America and North Asia business units. He remains General Manager of Alcatel's North American business. Prior to this appointment, Cistulli served as SVP and General Manager for Alcatel in North America.

Couple of Autodesk Directors Not to Stand for Re-election 

Autodesk’s two long-standing directors, J. Hallam Dawson, 78, and Per-Kristian Halvorsen, 63, have decided to not stand for reelection to the Board. Dawson is the retired chairman of IDI Associates, a private Latin American investment bank. Halvorsen is the chief innovation officer and a SVP at Intuit.

Motorola Solutions Appoints Company Veteran as Head of Brazilian Operations    

Motorola Solutions appointed Elton Borgonovo as general manager for its Brazilian operations. Borgonovo succeeds Paulo Cunha, who resigned from the position. Borgonovo joined Motorola 18 years ago as an intern.

Michael A. Brown to Step Down as President and CEO of Symantec           

Symantec announced that Michael A. Brown, 56, will step down as President and CEO. Brown will continue to serve as CEO and as a director of the Company until a successor has been appointed. Brown has been the CEO since September 2014 and served as its President from September 2014.

Citrix Systems Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO, Resigns    

David R. Friedman, 54, resigned as Citrix's Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO, which he served since April 2015. Friedman served as SVP of Human Resources at Citrix since April 2006 until March 2015 and served as its General Counsel since 2002 until March 2015.

Twitter Sees Board Shuffle and Appoints Managing Director for China  

Twitter appointed Hugh Johnston and Martha Lane Fox to serve as members of the Board. Johnston has been Vice Chairman and CFO of PepsiCo. Lane Fox has served as the founder and chair of doteveryone.org.uk, an organization advancing the understanding and use of Internet enabled technologies, and in September 2014 was appointed Chancellor of Open University.

Twitter appointed Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET Networks, to serve as a Board member.

Additionally, the Board has appointed Marjorie Scardino as lead independent director. She succeeds Peter Currie in the role, whose term will end following the Annual Meeting.

Twitter Appoints Kathy Chen as Managing Director for China. Previously, she was General Manager, Strategy Partner Ecosystem Microsoft Cloud and Enterprise Product Group at Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research & Development Group.
